In Pottuvil a major settlement area of the village is found in the section called Pakkiyawatte. KM/Ak/Al-Kalam Maha Vidyalaya will forever be the beacon of this region. This school was started on 15th of July 1985. The land of Muhaideen Bawa Mukkuluththumma was purchased by M.B. Meera Muhaideen with a sum of Rs. 6000 received from the local people and earmarked for this school. The school was first started in a thatched hut with about 20 students under the leadership of Principal A. Kulanthai Maraikkaar. The school was started by the former Member of Parliament M.I. Udumalebbe. During the period of the principal A. Kulanthai Maraikkaar, some people living in the area were told about the importance of the school, its use and the glory of education, and seminars and awareness were created. As a result, the number of students suddenly increased from 20 to 68 in the same year. Also the communication between the school and the public increased. As a result, the number of students of this school gradually started to improve.
A building was constructed and inaugurated in 1989 with the financial support of the general public and the financial support of the then Member of Parliament, M.I. Udumalebbe, for the benefit of the students who were constantly studying in thatched huts and in the shade of trees.
Initially the name of this school was KM/Pakkiyawatte Government Muslim Vidyalayam. On 4th of 1st month 1992 its name was changed to KM/Ak/Al-Kalam Muslim Vidyalaya. After being upgraded to a higher standard, it was renamed KM/Ak/Al-Kalam Maha Vidyalayam on 10th of February 2015.
